Asbestos Safety Resources

Brothers and Sisters,

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and as insulation and hazardous material trade workers, Local 6 cares deeply about education, safety, and prevention that will protect our members from increased risk.

Historically, insulators are the most exposed workers when it comes to asbestos, a leading cause of mesothelioma, or lung cancer. Massachusetts is also ranked 13th overall in the country when it comes to labor-related asbestos exposure and mesothelioma deaths.

That’s why Local 6 works hard each day to organize workers and fight for the safe working conditions and strong benefits that we all deserve. While we build our cities and towns, it’s critical that we prioritize the use of safe building materials and PPE.

It’s also important that we stay vigilant and knowledgeable about the dangers posed to us in our line of work. The Mesothelioma Center shares helpful information at Asbestos.com about asbestos and its associated risks, specifically as its relevant to the insulation trade.
